Membership Card News

We started rolling out the new membership scheme in April 2024. Since then we have signed up 135 members. On signing up we stated that the cards we issued would run for twelve months. We also advised that one of the things the membership scheme allowed us to do was look at alternate ways of charging - such as charging for the membership card in order to keep weekly fees low.


Also, we are anticipating a rent increase from the Daniel Owen Centre in the annual renegotiation in July/August.


We are happy to say that because of the healthy financial position of the club, we will not need to charge for membership this year, and that we expect to swallow the additional rent costs without passing it on to members in the form of fees.*


None of this is affected by the change to a Social Enterprise company. It merely reflects the excellent financial work done by Ben, and Sean before him, as Club Treasurer.


Your current membership card has a start date on it (from April 2024 to March 2025). This card will now remain valid for two years, rather than the one year previously advised. We therefore don't have to spend money on new cards and you wont need to renew it until 2026/7.


We have also committed this year to an objective of "Making Membership Mean More", so we shall be looking at ways of offering further benefits to members.


* Obviously if there is a catastrophic or game-changing event (the DOC burns down, inflation hits 20% etc) then we may have to revisit our plans. But we wanted to confirm our intentions before members started asking about new cards because theirs is coming up to a year old.
