Behaviour

Last night members of the committee were approached with a number of comments from members and staff at the centre regarding inappropriate behaviour.

While none of these comments have been escalated to a formal complaint, we would like to remind all members of the club's code of conduct and our zero tolerance policy towards unreasonable behaviour set out in our constitution.

This extends to behaviour both in person at game nights and whilst online using social media associated with the club. We are a games club. We push toy soldiers around, often whilst making pew-pew noises. It is fun. No one, club members or centre staff, should be made to feel uncomfortable.

We understand that everyone's view of 'reasonable' will vary. We also understand that banter and jokes can be interpreted differently. If you wouldn't say it in front of your maiden Aunt Ethel, then consider if your comment is better left unsaid or untyped. Don't put yourself in a position where the committee has to intervene and judge. We make no apology for addressing this issue early and head on. We would prefer to be known as a club that takes such comments seriously, than a club that doesn't respond to its members concerns.

Thank you to the vast majority of members that make our club a happy vibrant and successful place.

Is this a case of people being careless with their language or something more concerning?

Differing concerns were raised informally and in confidence. So shall remain so.

We chose to remind members of our policy and expectations in the hope that behaviour can be self regulated.
