Old World News!

You may be wondering what makes our club THE premier North Wales gaming club, well keep reading!

You've seen plenty of posts about how our Warhammer 40000 peasa... boys and Bolt Action men have represented Deeside Defenders (name pending change), but now I can happily announce that the club is going to get proper representation through Old World* in form of Nick Walsh!

Nick has become Welsh chairman for Warhammer The Old World!

And here is a statement from Nick:

Hello,

My name is Nick Walsh, I’ve been a member of Deeside Defenders for around 18 months now. Everybody at the club has made me feel really welcome in that time, I’ve made a lot of new friends, and I’m thankful to consider it my wargaming home.

The reason for the post is that I wanted to share the news I’ve been appointed as Welsh Chairman for Warhammer The Old World. My responsibilities will firstly be on running an application process/election for a captain who will lead Team Wales through the various international Old World teams events next year, including the 2026 World Team Championships in Spain where they will try to build upon the Best Sports prize they won in Melle, Germany this year. I’ll be supporting the team through out the year.

I’ll also be involved with the other UK & Ireland chairmen in organising the masters rankings for the coming year and the home nations event. The bit I’m most keen on though is trying to grow interest in playing Warhammer the Old World in Wales and bringing the various communities who do play closer together. From my own recent experience I know it can be a little daunting to get into when you’re starting out. I want to try to help people with that.

At present the Wales team is dominated by players from South Wales who I know are a lovely bunch but it would be nice to see a bit more representation from other areas of the country too. To aid that I’ll be encouraging participation in playing the game competitively while recognising that not everybody is actually interested in it and that primarily we’re supposed to be doing this for fun!
